reFOCUS
is a secular, non-profit tax-exempt organization which provides a network of
support and referrals for individuals recovering from the effects of a
destructive cult, or other closed, high-demand group or relationship.
reFOCUS does not pass judgment on specific groups, whether they are religious, self-help, business, political or other. reFOCUS does provide objective information, knowledge and resources in order to assist you to re-evaluate your group or relationship experience.
Toward this end, reFOCUS uses criteria from Chapter 22 of Dr. Robert Jay Lifton’s book, Thought Reform and the Psychology of Totalism, and Dr. Margaret Singer’s Six Conditions for Thought Reform to compare whether the psychological and social methods they list are present in the group or relationship in question.

reFOCUS will support you in recovering from the negative effects of a destructive, high-demand group or relationship through:
reFOCUS also assists the development of local support groups, builds relationships with pre-existing support groups and encourages the establishment of new support groups.
reFOCUS is involved in promoting and supporting the International Cultic Studies Association (ICSA) and other recovery resources.
reFOCUS maintains a former member contact list and a referral list of experienced mental health professionals knowledgeable about the effects of destructive cults, or closed high-demand groups or relationships.
reFOCUS has received internal revenue tax exemption status. All contributions to reFOCUS are tax deductible.

- Contact with other former members in recovery, support groups, rehab facilities, mental health professionals, clergy and other supportive organizations who are sensitive to our struggles.
- Access to books, articles, journals, newsletters, video and audio materials, research data and voluntary surveys.
- Information about cult recovery conferences and workshops.
- The reFOCUS enewsletter. This newsletter is a free internet enewsletter which provides some time-tested articles on recovery issues as well as current articles, and a list of upcoming recovery workshops and conferences.
